COVID 19 Protocol

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to The Mermaid. Travellers have been welcomed here for 600 years, and a building has stood on this spot since 1156. In that time The Mermaid has proved ever resilient.

We have been working tirelessly throughout the last 17 months to ensure the welfare of staff and guests alike. On July 19th many of the mitigations required by law will no longer exist.

The health and well-being of guests and staff still remain our priority. As such our staff will still be wearing masks inside the building. We would encourage guests to wear masks as well when moving around inside the building.

We ask guests to use the sanitisers we provide and to follow the advice of hands, face and space.

We would invite Guests to use the NHS Track and Trace App.

Parking: Regrettably, we have had to reduce the number of parking spaces we can offer. On our website there is a link to display all the available car parks in Rye. Guests are welcome to drop any luggage off by the archway on Mermaid Street. Public parking is available on Strand Quay and in the Market car park. Please could Blue Badge holders advise us in advance.

Reception: On arrival, overnight guests will check in through the reception door located under our famous archway. Due to welfare considerations, we are only able to check in one room at a time in reception. Please bear with us during busy times, we can assure you we will be working as quickly as possible, and it will be worth the wait!

We would ask guests to ensure they are not exhibiting any covid symptoms prior to arrival.

The Government Guidance if you should develop Covid 19 symptoms during your stay is:

“If a guest presents themselves with symptoms of COVID-19 or is asymptomatic but declares the need to self-isolate, they should be advised to check out and return home to self-isolate according to current government guidance. If the guest shows acute symptoms, has breathing difficulties or their life is at potential risk, seek medical help immediately.”

Rooms: Should you need anything please ask reception. During your stay, we would kindly ask guests to use their own bathroom rather that the public restrooms.

Dining: Our bar menu will be available every day from 12pm to 2.30pm and 6.00pm to 9.00pm for residents.

The restaurant dinner menu is available from 6.30pm to 9.00pm every day. Both menus are available as room service if you would prefer. One of our team will take your order and deliver to your room.

We will be offering a Breakfast Buffet, but we will still offer Buffet Table items as Table Service. A continental breakfast menu is available for room service. Please leave you order and preferred breakfast time with reception by 8.30pm the evening before and we will deliver it to your door.

The Giants Fireplace Bar and Patio: We will be offering the traditional Bar Service from July 19th. You will be able to choose to dine and drink either outside or inside.

We wish you as ever a very enjoyable and memorable stay at The Mermaid. All of our team are here to help, please ask any one of us if there is anything we can do to assist you.
