The base spirit itself is made with surplus table grapes, along with botanicals inspired by the grapes’ African and South American origins. For this expression, the team sources oranges that would have otherwise gone to waste and infused them in the spirit.

Jarrold’s Dry Gin

Traditionally there would have been less emphasis on juniper in a London Dry Gin but we wanted to mix it up a bit. We’re sticking to the rules of a London Dry by using a premium distilled alcohol made from British grain. Nothing added during the distillation other than our seven botanicals and nothing when we’re finished apart from cutting it back with local water to a very drinkable 48% ABV. We turned to the Dutch for the heavier juniper notes which we love and combined and balanced the two traditions together. The result is a super smooth beautifully balanced drinking experience which we hope will convince you to make it your go-to bottle as well.

This is a limited-edition gin.

Seedlip Gin

This non-alcoholic spirit alternative from Seedlip is one of the most innovative products we’ve seen for a long time. It’s made like a gin with botanicals, but is definitely not a gin. The predominant flavour is clove rather than juniper, and, most importantly, it has no alcohol! Perfect if you’re a designated driver or you’re not drinking at the moment. Creator Ben Branson was bored of sweet, fizzy drinks, and he combined six botanicals to make Seedlip: allspice, grapefruit, lemon peel, cardamom, American oak and cascarilla bark. Together, they make a fresh, warming drink that is full of flavour but is alcohol free.

Seven Sisters

So what do you do with what the French call Rebêche, the third pressing of grapes?

After we’ve taken the first pressing, the Cuvée, which is high in sugars and acids and comes from the pulp of the grapes and the second pressing, or the Taille, which is much richer but can be lower in acidity and sugars, you’re then left with the third pressing (the Rebêche), when you turn up the pressure and squeeze out the juice left in the grapes nearest to the skin and the grape pips.

The Rebêche is much coarser than the Taille and I have to admit that for the last three years I thought Jonathan was saying “that’s the rubbish”!  Anyway, back to the point – what do you do with the Rebêche?

Well this year Rathfinny sent it off to be distilled.  We spoke to a friendly gin distillery near Guildford and they’ve blended our grape spirit with a grain spirit.  We chose nine botanicals and we’ve made what we feel is a great ‘classic’ gin.

Sharish Blue Magic

One minute it’s a vibrant, deep blue hue… but pour over tonic and ABRACADABRA, your G&T is suddenly a beautiful dusky purple/pink colour. The ‘magic’ is due to the flower Clitoria Ternatea that colours Sharish Blue Gin without the use of artificial additives. The addition of tonic changes the pH levels and the varying shades depend on which tonic is used.

Made in Portugal, the botanicals include Juniper, Cinnamon, Coriander Seeds, Clove, Vanilla, and, rather originally, totally fresh Orange Peel, Lemon Peel, Bravo Esmolfe Apple and Lemon verbena.

Sipsmith Gin
